K-9

This member of the armed forces, along with his German Shepherd, visited my American history classroom one day to speak of the courageous dogs that aided our military during the Vietnam War. As I recall, approximately 3,000 dogs were called to active duty during the war years. This particular dog, too young to have participated in the Vietnam conflict, is, however, a direct descendant of a dog that did serve during that war.

Living in a military community, we hear stories about soldiers and their canine companions all the time. Heartwarming : )
